The St. Cloud State men's hockey team beat the Michigan Tech Huskies 3-2 in overtime at the First Round of the NCAA Tournament in Fargo Friday night.

Michigan Tech took an early 1-0 lead on senior Tanner Kero's goal at 7:18 of the first period, his 20th of the season. Tech outshot SCSU 15-8 in the opening period.

SCSU was awarded a power play late in the first, which carried over to the second period and the Huskies capitalized with just one second left in the man advantage. Kalle Kossilla, who missed last weekend's conference tournament with an injury, scored his sixth goal of the season at 1:06 to tie the game at one.

Kossilla's goal was the only shot on net credited to SCSU in the second period, with Tech firing 14 shots on Charlie Lindgren's net.

Michigan Tech took a 2-1 lead halfway through the third period when Joel L'Esperance's pass through the crease was tipped by CJ Elick and past Lindgren.

After both teams were called for minor penalties with 2:18 on the clock, SCSU coach Bob Motzko pulled Lindgren to make it a 5-on-4 advantage for the Huskies.

"Our power play has been awful good all year long for us, and that gave us a chance to get a power play," Motzko said. "If you wait, you take the risk of guys getting tired.

After Tech missed a couple of shots on the empty net, Jonny Brodzinski beat Tech netminder Jamie Phillips, who was pulled out of position trying to freeze a puck. Brodzinski's goal was his 21st of the season.

In the overtime period, after a Tech defender blew a tire, Judd Peterson slammed home his own rebound to send the Huskies to the regional final.
