ST. CLOUD -- The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team improved to 11-11-1 overall and 6-8-1 in the conference with a 3-2 overtime win against the Denver Pioneers Friday night.

The Huskies got the game winner by freshman forward Ryan Poehling to knock off the top ranked Pioneers at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. It's Poehling's 5th goal of the season.

Robby Jackson opened the scoring in the first period and Jack Poehling also had a goal late in the 2nd period.

Goaltender Jeff Smith made 24 saves in the win.

SCSU outshot Denver 43-26 in the game, their second highest shot total of the season.

Game two of the series is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. tonight in St. Cloud. Fans will be able to skate with the Huskies following the game. It is free and open to the public. Players will also be available for photos and autographs at the event.
