ST. CLOUD - St. Cloud State celebrated the grand re-opening of the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center today.

The re-opening celebrates the new renovations made to the Hockey Center. It was also held to honor its new name, after legendary hockey coach Herb Brooks, who coached at the school in 1986.

"I just wish my father was still alive so he could see this, because he had a dream 26-27 years ago for this community and this school" Dan Brooks, the son of Herb Brooks said.

The ceremony featured a ribbon cutting by St. Cloud State University President Earl H. Potter III.

"Students, faculty, staff, and members of our community will enjoy hockey in a way they've never known" Potter said.

Head coach Bob Motzko, and hockey captains Nick Dowd and Amy Olson also gave speeches during the event today.

The Huskies will open their 2013-2014 season at the Herb Brooks National Hockey center on October 11th against Bemidji State. The doors will open at 6 p.m. with a special WCHA championship banner raising ceremony that will take place before the game.

Information and tickets can be found at the SCSU tickets website.
