Sauk Rapids Grad Jason Hoppe Continues To Build Resume With MLB Draft Looming [AUDIO]
Former Sauk Rapids High School standout pitcher Jason Hoppe has been on quite a roll so far in 2014 with Minnesota State-Mankato.
Last season Hoppe set a Division II record with 55.1 consecutive scoreless innings pitched in a season in which he went 8-1 with a 1.26 ERA in 13 starts.
In six games started in 2014, the righty is 6-0 with a 2.50 ERA. Hoppe has struck out 46 batters in 39.2 innings pitched while only allowing eight walks.
In addition, the Mavericks are ranked third in the nation according to the latest poll conducted by D2Baseball.com. MSU-Mankato currently sports a 21-4 record. Hoppe says the team is happy with their start, but adds that there is always room for improvement.
Hoppe has played a pair of seasons in the Northwoods League, first in 2012 with Lakeshore and in 2013 with his hometown St. Cloud Rox. Hoppe says he was getting over an injury while with the Rox (suffered during the Mavericks’ season) which led to an up and down season.
