The Kansas City Royals survived a Twins comeback in a 9-8 win Sunday afternoon at Target Field. The Minnesota pitching staff allowed 13 hits and five walks in the loss.

Clete Thomas, Justin Morneau and Trevor Plouffe all had home runs for the Twins in the loss. Oswaldo Arcia was 2-4 with an RBI.

The Royals jumped out to a 5-1 lead through four innings until Thomas smacked a two-run bomb to make it 5-3. Arcia singled home Ryan Doumit to cut the Royals lead to one at 5-4.

The Royals got two runs back on a single in the top of the sixth from Alicides Escobar for a 7-4 advantage. Morneau responded for Minnesota with a two run shot to right field, and the Twins tied the game at seven on a Josh Willingham ground rule double.

The Royals pulled away with two late solo home runs.

The Twins are now 36-42 and host the New York Yankees Monday night at Target Field.
