The Kansas City Royals topped the Minnesota 3-1 at Kauffman Stadium Monday afternoon. The Twins fall to 4-3 with the loss.

The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a Ryan Doumit single with runners on the corners and two outs. Trevor Plouffe followed with a single, but Doumit got thrown out inexplicably off second base despite the fact that third base was occupied.

Kevin Correia was able to keep the Royals off the board until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Kansas City scored a pair of runs on two doubles and a single.

Jared Burton came in to the game in relief of Correia and threw a wild pitch to advance Alicides Escobar to third base. Billy Butler singled to scored Escobar and give the Royals the 3-1 lead.

Correia took the loss for the Twins, lasting 7.1 innings while allowing 8 hits with one walk and one strikeout.

Ervin Santana was the winning pitcher for Kansas City, allowing only the first inning run in eight innings of work. The former Angel struck out seven while walking only one.
