Red Sox Rout Twins 9-5
The Red Sox beat the Twins 9-5 Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park in Boston. Carl Pavano allowed 10 hits and 7 earned runs in 5 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-4. His ERA swells to 6.64. Jason Kubel went 3-4 with a run scored and 2 RBIs and Danny Valencia went 2-4 with a homerun and 2 RBIs for the Twins. Adrian Gonzalez went 3-5 with a homerun and 2 RBIs for the Red Sox. Minnesota is 12-20 and 9 1/2 games back of Cleveland for first place in the AL Central. Twins shortstop Trevor Plouffe left the game late with a tight hamstring. His status going forward is questionable. The Twins close the 4-game series at Boston tonight at 6:10, pregame on WJON at 5:40. Righthander Nick Blackburn (2-4) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Josh Beckett (2-1) toes the rubber for the Red Sox. Blackburn starts in place of Francisco Liriano. Liriano misses the start due to flu-like symptoms.
