Orioles Sink Twins With Late Slam

A record-setting grand slam broke a late stalemate and sent the Twins to a loss on the road. 

The Twins blew a pair of leads and gave up a grand slam in the bottom of the eighth inning to Chris Davis in a 9-5 loss to the Baltimore Orioles Friday afternoon at Camden Yards.

Twins outfielder Chris Parmelee's RBI single to centerfield in the top of the fourth inning tied the game, and Brian Dozier's two-RBI triple in the same inning gave the Twins the lead at 3-1. Eduardo Escobar followed with a single to score Dozier for a 4-1 lead.

The Orioles answered with a run on a JJ Hardy groundout in the bottom of the fourth, then tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 4-4.

Dozier again came through in the clutch in the top of the sixth with a run scoring single that gave the Twins an ill-fated 5-4 lead heading to the bottom of the inning.

Adam Jones laced a single with the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game and set the stage for Davis' big fly off Tyler Robinson. Davis has 16 RBI through Baltimore's first four games, which is an MLB record.

The Twins are now 3-2 on the season and will play at Baltimore again on Saturday and Sunday.
