Mauer To Move To First Base Permanently In 2014
The Minnesota Twins announced Monday that Joe Mauer will move from his familiar spot behind home plate as catcher to first base, where he played eight games in 2013 and 30 games in 2012.
Mauer missed a significant amount of time due to concussions in 2013. The St. Paul native played in 113 games total, and none after August 19th.
The Twins said Mauer made the decision to move after a visit to the Mayo Clinic.
Josmil Pinto is expected to take over as the starting catcher for Minnesota. He hit .342 in 83 plate appearances as a rookie in 2013.
