The Gopher football team lost 21-13 Saturday afternoon on Homecoming to Northwestern.  The Gophers had numerous chances in the final 5 minutes but Max Shortell's attempts at the end zone on 3rd and 4th and goal with just over 2 mintes left failed.  Shortell started the game but was replaced by Marquis Gray in the 2nd quarter.  Gray played until the end of the 3rd quarter when he aggravated his ankle injury.

Shortell was 9-19 passing for 103 yards and Gray was 7-11 passing for 66 yards and 1 inteception with 86 yards rushing and 1 touchdown.  Donnell Kirkwood ran for 73 yards on 18 carries.

The Gophers fall to 4-2 overall and o-2 in the Big Ten.  Minnesota will play at Wisconsin next Saturday at 11am, pregame on AM 1390-the Fan at 10:00am.
