New Gopher basketball coach Richard Pitino has hired 2 assistant coaches.  They are Mike Balado and Kimani Young.  Balado and Young both coached with Pitino at Florida International.  Young was a former standout at Texas-El Paso and a former Athletic Director for a non-profit organization in New York City.

The Gopher basketball program has decided to release previously signed player Alex Foster and Alvin Ellis.  6’7 Power Forward Rakeem Buckles has reportedly indicated he’ll transfer to the Gophers after spending 3 seasons at Louisville and sat out 1 season at Florida International.  The Gophers are also reportedly interested in recently released 3-star point guard Shane Rector.  Rector had committed to Rutgers prior to Mike Rice being fired.
