The Gopher men's basketball team lost freshman 6'4 guard Wally Ellenson for 6-8 weeks with a broken left hand.  The injury happened when his hand got tangled up with a teammate's jersey during a rebounding drill.  Ellenson is a left-hander from Rice Lake, Wisconsin.  He averaged 21 points and 9 rebounds his senior year in High School.

Ellenson was expected to backup Joe Coleman and Austin Hollins playing the shooting guard and small forward position.  The Gopher men's basketball team will host Minnesota State-Mankato at 7pm tonight in an exhibition game.

The Gopher women's basketball team beat Concordia-St. Paul 76-49 Wednesday night in an exhibition game.  Rachel Banham led the Gophers with 22 points and Kionna Kellogg added 14 points and 8 rebounds for Minnesota.  The Gophers will play another exhibition game at 2pm Sunday against Minnesota State-Mankato.
