Gopher Hockey Stunned By Yale In NCAA Opener
The #2 seeded Gophers saw their 2012-13 season end Friday afternoon by a most unlikely foe.
The 15th-seeded Yale Bulldogs blew a two goal lead in the third period but closed the game out in overtime with a 3-2 win over Minnesota Friday afternoon in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
With Minnesota trailing 2-0 in the third period, Cathedral grad Nate Schmidt scored for the Gophers to cut the Yale lead to one. Zach Budish scored for the U of M 5:30 later to tie the game and sent the tournament’s opening game into overtime.
It only took nine seconds of the extra period for Yale’s Jesse Root to score on an unbelievable pass from Kenny Agostino that beat a sprawling Adam Wilcox.
