The Gophers went to 2-0 on the season with a 44-21 win Saturday night at New Mexico State. Minnesota's defense recovered two fumbles for touchdowns on their way to the victory.

Minnesota led 27-7 at the half thanks to one of the defensive touchdowns as well as a pair of field goals and a rushing touchdown from David Cobb.

Another field goal combined with a quarterback Phillip Nelson touchdown run and the Gophers' second defensive touchdown completed the scoring.
