MINNEAPOLIS - The Gophers had the ball at the end but DeAndre Mathieu's layup missed, as Minnesota lost a heartbreaker to Northwestern (55-54) on Saturday night.

Maurice Walker led the Gophers with 14 points. Austin Hollins added 13 points, six rebounds and three steals during the action.

The Gophers fall to 15-7 this year with the loss. Minnesota will travel to take on Purdue next on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
