The College of St. Benedict has announced the hiring of Glennis Werner Roseboom as the new Athletic Director. She takes over for Carol Howe-Veenstra, who held the position for over 20 years and will be stepping down in July.

Werner Roseboom was the captain of the 1992-93 Blazer basketball team that made a run to the Final Four. However, she is quick to note that she wasn't necessarily a star on the team.

"I was very much like a coach then... I wasn't a star athlete," Werner Roseboom said. "I had to work every year to make the team. I was a captain but I really was in a support role."

Werner Roseboom says that experience helped mold her administrative style.

"I learned how to make the people around me better, and to help them," Werner Roseboom said. "I'm not coming in as a star, but I am coming in as a person that wants to see other people be successful around me."

Werner Roseboom has worked as the Director of the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center since 2007. She said she saw the news of Howe-Veenstra's retirement and decided to send in her resume.

"Facebook had announced Carol's retirement, and it was almost like a light switch," Werner Roseboom said. "Mac (Jim McConnell) said to make sure you pursue something that I wanted to be knee-deep in for the rest of my life."

"Now exactly 20 years later, I did it," Werner Roseboom said. "I'm in sports and it's the thing that makes me happiest.... besides being a mommy."
