Cleveland Sweeps Day/Night Doubleheader
The Twins lost both games in a day/night doubleheader Monday against Cleveland at Target Field. Cleveland won the first game 5-2. Asdrubal Cabrera hit a 3-run homerun and David Huff threw 7 shutout innings with 5 hits allowed to get the win for Cleveland. Anthony Swarzak allowed 6 hits and 3 earned runs in 6 innings to take the loss. Michael Cuddyer hit a 2-run homerun for the Twins. Cleveland won the nightcap over the Twins 6-3.
Scott Diamond make his major league debut and allowed 7 hits and 3 earned runs in 6 1/3 innings to take the loss. Joe Mauer went 3-4 with 1 RBI and both Danny Valencia and Trevor Plouffe each hit a solo homerun for the Twins.
Minnesota is 44-51 and is now 7 games back of Cleveland for first place in the American League Central. The Twins host Cleveland again tonight at 7:10, pregame on WJON at 6:40. Lefthander Francisco Liriano (6-7) gets the start on the mound for the Twins and righthander Justin Masterson (8-6) toes the rubber for the Indians.
