Tigers Beat Twins 3-2

The Tigers edged the Twins 3-2 Saturday afternoon in Detroit. Brandon Inge hit a solo walkoff homerun against Glen Perkins to win the game in the 9th. Joe Mauer was 2-3 including hitting his 3rd homerun of the season. Joe Benson added his first 2 major league hits. Perkins took the loss in relief. Anthony Swarzak threw 6 innings with 2 earned runs allowed but didn't figure in the final decision.

UW-Eau Claire Beats Johnnies

The St. John's Football team lost 47-19 Saturday afternoon in Collegeville to Wisconsin-Eau Claire. The Johnnies fell behind 31-0 before finally getting on the scoreboard. John Ries threw for 117 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Johnnies and Connor Bruns was 6-11 passing for 60 yards for St. John's. Sam Pederson and Nick Schneider each had a touchdown reception for the Johnnies.

Gophers Lose; Kill Has Apparent Seizure

The Gopher Football team lost 28-21 at home to New Mexico State Saturday afternoon. With :20 seconds left in the game Gopher first year head coach Jerry Kill suffered what appeared to be a seizure on the sideline. Play stopped for several minutes before the game resumed. Kill was taken off the field by medical staff on a golf cart. The Gophers trailed 21-14 at halftime and were down 28-14 going into the 4th quarter.

NSIC Football Preview; SCSU, UMD and Augie Fight It Out

The St. Cloud State football team begins the 2011 season Thurdsay night at #12 California, Pennsylvania. The Huskies are ranked #13 in the lastest NABC Division II poll but fellow NSIC team Minnesota-Duluth is ranked #1 in that poll. UMD beat St. Cloud State in the 2nd round of the NCAA Division II tournament last season but the Huskies exceeded expectations.

The Vikings reportedly agreed to sign defensive tackle Remi Ayodele to a contract. Ayodele is 6'2 318 pounds and played all 16 games for the New Orleans Saints in 2010. He had 37 total tackles and 1 sack. Ayodele is 28 years old.

The Twins beat the L.A. Dodgers 1-0 Wednesday afternoon behind a great performance from starting pitcher Scott Baker. Baker threw 7 1/3 innings with 6 hits and 1 walk with 9 strikeouts to get the win and improve to 6-5. Glen Perkins recorded the final 2 outs of the 8th inning and Matt Capps threw a scoreless 9th inning for his 13th save.

Willmar beat the River Bats 7-2 Wednesday night to suffer their 3rd straight loss. Willmar scored 6 first inning runs and held on for the win. Andrew Urban allowed 2 hits, 3 walks and 6 runs (4 earned) in the first inning to take the loss. Kyle Stiner was 3-4 with 1 RBI and Mitch Garver went 2-4 with a solo homerun for St. Cloud.

The Timberwolves picked up the 4th year option on guard Wayne Ellington and 3rd year options on forwards Wes Johnson and Lazar Hayward. Ellington averaged 6.6 points a game in 2010-2011. He was the 28th overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

Twins Stop Skid With 6-4 Win Over Dodgers

The Twins snapped a 6-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the L.A. Dodgers at Target Field Tuesday night. Luke Hughes hit a 2-run homerun in the 5th inning to break a 4-all tie for the Twins. Ben Revere went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and 1 RBI and Jason Repko was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases for the Twins.
