Vikings Beat Cards For First Win

The Vikings downed the Arizona Cardinals 34-10 Sunday afternoon to earn their first win of the season at Mall of America Field. Adrian Peterson had a huge day for the Vikings with 3 first quarter touchdown runs. Peterson finished with 29 carries for 122 yards and 3 touchdowns. Donavan McNabb was 10-21 passing for 169 yards with a rushing score. Devin Aromashadu started for Bernard Berrian and had 2 catches for 81 yards. Berrian was healthy scratch.

SCSU Beats Rival Minnesota State

The St. Cloud State football team beat Minnesota State-Mankato 31-13 Saturday afternoon to capture the traveling training kit. SCSU led 17-6 at halftime and scored 14 4th quarter points to put the game out of reach. Dante Steward ran for 141 yards and 2 touchdowns. Michael Walker ran for 82 yards and a touchdown for the Huskies. Brad Meade threw for 77 yards and a touchdown for SCSU.

Bethel Tops St. John’s 41-20

St. John's football lost 41-20 at home to Bethel Saturday afternoon. Bethel and St. John's were tied at 20 apiece before Bethel scored 21 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. Stephen Johnson ran for 115 yards and 1 touchdown for the Johnnies. Ben Krebsbach threw for 84 yards and 1 touchdown for the Johnnies.

Purdue Pounds Gophers

Purdue beat the Gophers 45-17 Saturday afternoon in West Fayette, Indiana. Minnesota trailed 31-3 at halftime and managed a pair of garbage touchdowns in the 2nd half. Marcus Jones had a 92-yard kickoff return touchdown and Marquis Gray had a 1-yard touchdown run. Gray threw for just 104 yards and ran for 20 yards for Minnesota.

The St. Cloud State men's hockey team defeated the University of Alaska 4-1 in Anchorage, Alaska Friday night to begin the regular season. Nic Dowd, Travis Novak, Ben Hanowski and Drew LeBlanc each scored a goal and Jared Festler had 2 assists for the Huskies.

Frazier Sticking With McNabb

Viking head coach Leslie Frazier announced at his press conference that he's sticking with veteran Donavan McNabb as his starting quarterback. Frazier says McNabb will start this Sunday at home against Arizona. McNabb was 18-30 passing for 202 yards and 2 touchdowns with 1 interception against Kansas City this Sunday.

SCSU Football Beats Northern State

The St. Cloud State football team defeated Northern State 27-14 Saturday evening at Husky Stadium. SCSU led 17-7 at halftime and increased their lead to 27-7 in the 3rd quarter. Phil Klaphake threw for 192 yards and 2 touchdowns and he ran for a score. Brandon Geiss led the Huskies with 115 yards rushing on 13 carries.

Tommies Pound Johnnies

St. John's lost 63-7 Saturday afternoon in St. Paul to St. Thomas. The Tommies led 49-0 at halftime and were never threatened. Colin Moynihan had an 11-yard touchdown run in the 4th quarter for the only Johnnie score. Connor Bruns was 14-27 passing for 144 yards with no touchdowns and 2 interceptions. St. John's quarterbacks were sacked 8 times and the Johnnies comitted 3 turnovers.

Michigan Punishes Gophers

Michigan scored early and often in their 58-0 rout of the Gophers at the Big House in Ann Arbor, Michigan Saturday afternoon. Michigan led 38-0 at halftime and outgained the Gophers 580 yards to 177. Denard Robinson threw for 169 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 51 yards and another score for the Wolverines. Max Shortell started at quarterback for the Gophers and threw for 104 yards on 11-22 passing.

The Minnesota Wild lost their final preseason game 4-3 in an overtime shootout to Edmonton at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday night. Pierre-Marc Bouchard, Mikko Koivu and Devin Setoguchi each scored a goal for the Wild and Marek Zidlicky had 2 assists for Minnesota.
