Cathedral’s Burt to Play Basketball at Augustana

Cathedral senior point guard Joe Burt has signed his national letter of intent to play college basketball at Augustana College in the NSIC. The ceremony took play at Cathedral High School today where Burt signed his letter of intent and track and cross country star Gretz Danielson was honored about signing her letter of intent to attend North Dakota State.

Brewers Routs Marquis, Twins 16-4

The Twins lost 16-4 in Milwaukee to the Brewers Sunday afternoon. Jason Marquis allowed 8 hits and 8 earned runs in 1 2/3 innings to take the loss and drop to 2-4. His ERA swells to 8.47. Joe Mauer led the Twins with 4 hits and Josh Willingham had 1 hit and 1 RBI for Minnesota. The Twins were so far behind that backup catcher Drew Butera threw 1 scoreless inning of relief including a strikeout of former Twin centerfielder Carlos Gomez. The Twins' 4-game win streak is snapped.

Lynx Win Season Opener Over Phoenix

The Minnesota Lynx defeated Phoenix 105-83 Sunday afternoon in their season opener. The Lynx received their WNBA championship rings before the game in a ceremony. Seimone Augustus led the Lynx with 19 points, Monica Wright added 15 points and both Lindsay Whalen and Maya Moore had 13 points apiece.

SCSU Baseball Falls In Regional Finals

The St. Cloud State baseball team lost 5-4 to Minnesota State-Mankato in the NCAA Division II Central Regional finals in Mankato Sunday to win the Central Region Championship. Mike Eckhart drove in the game-winning run with a sacrifice fly in the 9th inning.

The St. Cloud Tech and Community College defeated Nassau 6-3 in the National Junior College World Series in Tyler, Texas Sunday. Corey Fitzgerald threw all 9 innings with 3 runs allowed and Luke Fobbe had 3 hits for the Cyclones.

Twins Rout Brewers For 3rd Straight Win

The Twins pounded the Brewers 11-3 in Milwaukee to win their 3rd straight game Friday night. Denard Span led the Twins going 4-5 with 3 runs scored and 3 RBIs, Joe Mauer was 3-5 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs and Justin Morneau was 2-4 with 3 RBIs for Minnesota. Scott Diamond threw 5 1/3 innings with 8 hits and 3 earned runs scored to get the win and improve to 3-0.

SCSU Baseball Wins NCAA Tourney Game

The St. Cloud State baseball team defeated Winona State 12-7 Thursday in the NCAA Division II Central Regional in Mankato. SCSU broke the 7-all tie with 5 runs in the 8th inning led by Mike Jurgella's bases clearing double. Garrett Fischer was 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI and Chris Kubitz threw 2 scoreless innings to get the win in relief for the Huskies.
