The United States won nine medals, including five golds, to take a commanding lead in the overall medal count at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on Thursday. Here’s a recap of the day’s highlights:
Carli Lloyd scored twice as the US women’s soccer team beat Japan, 2-1, to win the gold medal in front of 80,203 at Wembley Stadium. The victory avenged the Americans’ loss to the Japanese team at the Women’s World Cup last summer. Canada beat France, 1-0, to win the bronze medal.
Alise Post Qualifies In 8th
St. Cloud native Alise Post qualified in 8th place in the women's BMX racing event at the Olympic games in London. She said after the race she could have raced better but could have been worse. She is seeded 4th for her semifinal heat and needs to finish 4th or higher to advance to the finals.

The spotlight turned to the track and field events at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London on Sunday. Here’s a recap of the day’s action:
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt won his second consecutive gold medal in the men’s 100 meters on Sunday night, running the race in an Olympic record 9.63 seconds — the second-fastest 100 meters in history. Bolt’s Jamaican teammate, and world champion, Yohan Blake won the silver medal, while American Justin Gatlin took the bronze.
