SCSU Football Closes Season With Tight Win at Moorhead
The St. Cloud State football team won 39-37 at Minnesota State-Moorhead Saturday afternoon. The field with wet and soggy but SCSU led 19-15 at halftime and didn't trail in the 2nd half. Phil Klaphake ran for 165 yards and 2 touchdowns and threw for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns for SCSU. Michael Walker ran for 84 yards and 1 touchdown for the Huskies.

The St. John's football team ended the season with a 27-22 loss at Bethel on Saturday afternoon. St. John's trailed 17-13 at halftime and never led in the game. Connor Bruns threw for 258 yards and 1 touchdown. Rob Voshell had 3 catches for 29 yards and a touchdown and Josh Bungum led the Johnnies with 7 catches for 84 yards. Harry Awe had a rushing touchdown for St. John's Stephen Johnson led the team with 32 yards rushing.

The Gopher football team defeated Illinois 17-3 at Illinois Saturday to become bowl eligible for the first time since 2009. Minnesota fell behind 3-0 but tied the game at 3 going into halftime. Donnell Kirkwood ran 28 times for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns for Minnesota and Philip Nelson threw for just 78 yards and ran for 24 yards for the Gophers.
SCSU’s Klaphake on Harlon Hill Finalist List
St. Cloud State junior quarterback Phil Klaphake has been named one of 24 finalists for the top player in Division II college football, the Harlon Hill Trophy. Klaphake threw for 2,519 yards and 26 touchdowns and has run for 460 yards and 7 touchdowns for the Huskies in 2012. He ranks in the top three in the NSIC in passing average per game, total offense and pass efficiency.

The Huskies are coming off a 57-10 blowout win at Minot State Saturday to end their 2-game losing streak. Ledell White had a breakout game for the Huskies with 160 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns. Michael Walker ran for 100 yards and 1 touchdown for the Huskies.

Harry Awe ran for 54 yards and 1 touchdown and Jake Essler ran for 20 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Johnnies.

Philip Nelson was 13-29 passing for 142 yards and 1 touchdown with no interceptions and 37 yards rushing. Donnell Kirkwood led the Gophers rushing for 58 yards on 16 carries.
