2011 NCAA College Football – Week 13 Preview

For many schools across the country, this is rivalry week: the game that determines bragging rights and, in many cases, a coach’s future employment. But after last week’s chaotic BCS shakeup, a slew of one-loss teams are suddenly back in the national title mix, anxiously hoping for some SEC upsets to give them a shot. Combine that intrigue with a slew of heated rivalries and teams jockeying for conference championships and bowl positions, and it should be another exciting week in college football. Wayne State Upset SCSU Football

The St. Cloud State football team lost 48-38 in the first round of the NCAA Division II Super Region #3 Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. Wayne State led 27-24 at halftime and increased its lead to 41-31 at the end of 3 quarters. Phil Klaphake threw for 284 yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss for SCSU. Klaphake ran for 87 yards to lead SCSU on the ground.

SCSU’s Underwood Is NSIC Coach Of The Year

St. Cloud State football coach Scott Underwood is the NSIC coach of the year for the first time in his career. That announcement came Tuesday when the NSIC announced its season ending awards. Underwood and the Huskies are 9-2 this season and have made back to back appearances in the NCAA tournament. Underwood is 33-13 in his career coaching at SCSU.

SCSU Football Gets #3 Seed

The St. Cloud State football team is the #3 seed in the Super Region NCAA Division II tournament. The pairings were announced Sunday. SCSU will play #6 Wayne State (Michigan) Saturday November 19 at SCSU's Husky Stadium. The Huskies are 9-2 while Wayne State is 8-3.

Johnnies Rout Hamline To Close Season

The St. John's football team blanked last place Hamline 61-0 to close the season on a 4-game winning streak. St. John's was led by Connor Bruns with 183 yards passing and 3 touchdowns and he ran for 25 yards and 2 touchdowns. Taylor Freetly had 4 catches for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns for St. John's.

SCSU Tops MSU-Moorhead to Win a Share of NSIC Title

The 13th ranked St. Cloud State football team defeated Minnesota State-Moorhead 47-14 Saturday afternoon to win a share of the NSIC title. SCSU finishes the regular season 9-2 overall and 8-2 in the NSIC. Michael Walker ran for 73 yards and 3 touchdowns for SCSU and Andy Folz ran for 73 yards and 1 touchdown for the Huskies. Phil Klaphake threw for 157 yards and ran for 34 yards and 1 touchdown for St. Cloud State.

Badgers Pound Gophers 42-13

The 18th ranked Wisconsin Badgers beat the Gophers 42-13 at TCF Bank Stadium Saturday afternoon. Wisconsin keeps control of the traveling trophy "Paul Bunyan's Axe". Wisconsin led 28-6 at halftime and cruised in the 2nd half. Marqueis Gray was held in check throwing for just 51 yards and rushing for 68 yards. Minnesota scored its two touchdowns on a 96 yard kickoff return by Duane Bennett and a 5-yard fake field goal run by kicker Jordan Wettstein.

Weekend Recap; SCSU Football Upset, St. John’s Wins

Bemidji State 19, #6 St. Cloud State 14
(Phil Klaphake ran for 101 yards and threw for 182 and a touchdown for the Huskies. SCSU is 8-2 and will host Minnesota State-Moorhead Saturday at 1pm in their final regular season game)

#11 SCSU Routs #6 UMD

The 11th ranked St. Cloud State football team defeated #6 Minnesota-Duluth 35-7 Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium. SCSU extends their home winning streak to 14 games. The win gives the Huskies a 8-1 record and a head to head win against the defending division II national champions. Duluth beat SCSU in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament last season.

Gopher Football Beats Iowa

The Gopher football team won their first Big Ten game this season 22-21 over Iowa Saturday afternoon at TCF Bank Stadium. Minnesota came from down 21-10 in the 4th quarter to sneak by the visiting Hawkeyes. The Gophers win the traveling trophy with Iowa (Floyd of Rosedale) for a 2nd straight year. Marqueis Gray ran for the go-ahead touchdown with 2:48 left. He threw for 193 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 62 yards and another score. Duane Bennett ran for 101 yards and a touchdown for Minnesota.
