The St. Cloud Apollo Eagles could not match the firepower of St. Thomas Academy at the Xcel Energy Center Wednesday night. 

Two-time defending state champion St. Thomas Academy ended St. Cloud Apollo's Cinderella run to the state tournament 12-0 Wednesday night in a quarterfinal matchup at Xcel Energy Center.

The Cadets led 4-0 after one period with shots on goal favoring STA 14-0. Alex Johnson led the Cadets with two goals in the period.

St. Thomas Academy scored five more goals in the second period for a 9-0 lead and outshot Apollo 21-1 in the second. Alec Broetzman had a pair of tallies in the second for STA.

Matt Perry's second goal of the game was the first of three scored by the Cadets in the third period. The final shots on goal were 50-3.

This is St. Thomas Academy's last year competing at the Class A level. Next year they will compete in "big school" Class AA.
