The Wild had no answer for Chicago’s firepower in a 5-2 loss Friday night at the United Center in Chicago. The Blackhawks now lead the best-of-seven series two games to zero.

The Hawks got on the board first when Michael Frolik scored at 8:34 of the opening period for a 1-0 lead that would hold into the first intermission. Chicago outshot Minnesota 17-7 in the first period.

The Wild were on a power play early in the second period with a chance to net the equalizing goal, but a turnover at center ice resulted in a shorthanded goal for Chicago when Michael Frolik scored at :49 for a 2-0 lead.

The Wild finally got on the board to cut the Blackhawks’ lead in half when Devin Setoguchi skated in alone on Chicago goalie Corey Crawford with just over two minutes left in the second period.

The Wild actually outshot Chicago 15-14 in the period, but a remarkable seven of those shot attempts were put-back tries for Zach Parise on a single scoring chance.

Chicago put their foot on the gas pedal in a third period in which they outshot the Wild 17-6 and controlled play in front of Minnesota goalie Josh Harding for a majority of the period.

Patrick Sharp scored on a wrist shot on a Patrick Kane assist to make the score 3-1 at 3:44, then the same pair combined for another goal at 14:08 for a 4-1 Chicago lead.

Minnesota defenseman Marco Scandella connected on a slap shot from the blue line to cut the Chicago lead in half with 3:31 remaining in the third period, but that is as close as the Wild would get to mounting a comeback.

Final shots on goal favored Chicago 48-28. The series comes to St. Paul on Sunday afternoon (1:30 PM, AM 1390-The Fan).
