#1 Gopher Men’s Hockey Team Downs #6 North Dakota
The Golden Gophers got their final WCHA series with North Dakota started with a 5-1 win Friday night at Mariucci Arena.
UND scored first on a Michael Parks power play goal at 3:34 of the second period after a scoreless opening frame.
That would be the only goal allowed by U of M goaltender Adam WIlcox, who made 24 saves while his team scored five unanswered goals.
Zach Budish got the Gophers on the board 6:06 into the second period, followed by a Ben Marshall goal at 19:54 that gave Minnesota a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
The Gophers poured it on with three third period goals in front of a raucous Mariucci Arena crowd of 10,318-the third largest crowd ever at the storied rink.
Nate Schmidt scored his fourth of the season at 6:03 of the third, Nate Condon scored a short-handed goal for his second of the season, and Erik Haula completed the scoring with an empty net goal late in the third.
The Gophers are now 9-3-3 in WCHA play, while UND falls to 8-4-3 with the loss.
